Cataract surgery and laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK) are the focus of Dr. Mary Beth McAteer, a board-certified ophthalmologist. A partner at NVOA since 1987, she also provides comprehensive eye care to patients she has often followed for decades.
A Washington native, she attended Villanova University, earned her medical degree at Georgetown University in 1982, completed an internship at Bryn Mawr Hospital, and finished ophthalmology residency at Georgetown in 1987.
Service has shaped her career: she provided primary care to migrant orchard workers and underserved patients through the U.S. Public Health Service in Hancock, Maryland; spent four years on active duty with the Indian Health Service, providing eye care on reservations in Arizona; and has provided ophthalmic care in Haiti. Since 1987 she has also cared for residents of the Northern Virginia Training Center.
Dr. McAteer has been named repeatedly to regional top-doctor lists, including those published by Washingtonian and Northern Virginia Magazine.
